Maribel

Maribel 703
Maribel, Wisconsin, is a village in Manitowoc County along I-43 about halfway between Green Bay (northwest) and Manitowoc (southeast), which is on Lake Michigan. It has about 330 residents.

The following is from The Romance of Wisconsin Place Names.
The Rev. F. X. Steinbrecher, who took a great interest in developing the beautiful grounds, is credited with coining the name. "Mary is for the month of May when we started to build," he said. "And we should add something to it to ring the bell - like Mary-bell. How would that be?" The caves [in the area] were called Maribel Caves and the railroad station became Maribel Station.

Not a bad story.
