Green Bay, Wisconsin, is located in Brown County at the head of the bay of Green Bay where the Fox River empties into Lake Michigan. It is about 110 miles north of Milwaukee. I-41 and I-43 run through the city and meet just north of town in Howard. (Fort Howard was part of the early settlement of this area.) Other important roads in the city include US Highway 141 and state highways 29, 32, 54, and 57. Highway 172 passes just to the southwest through the suburbs.

Green Bay has a population of about 107,400 residents, making it the 3rd largest city in the state, after Milwaukee and Madison. It is (obviously) the home of the Green Bay Packers football team which plays home games at Lambeau Field.

The early settlement had several French names including La Baie Verte (The Green Bay, for the color of the water), La Baie des Puants (The Bay of Stinking Waters), and Le Grande Baie (The Large Bay). After the British arrived, the English version, Green Bay, stuck.
