Marinette, Wisconsin, is a city in Marinette County located on Green Bay where Wisconsin meets Upper Michigan. Just across the border is Menominee, Michigan, which is sometimes called Marinette's twin city, as in Marinette-Menominee. US Highway 41 and state highways 64 and 180 pass through the city, which has about 10,300 residents.
Marinette was named for a business woman named either Marguerite or Marie Antoinette Chevalier. One account says that Marinette, which is a short form of Marie Antoinette, was her nickname.
