Alma Center, Wisconsin, seems like it should be next door to Alma, but it's not. It's a county and a half to the east in Jackson County. Its 500 people are situated between Merrillan and Hixton on state highway 95. There is precious little (read, none) information readily available about the source of the name. Maybe when the village's website is online, we'll get more info.
