Three Lakes, Wisconsin, is located in Oneida County at the intersection of US Highway 45 and state highway 32 about 20 miles northeast of Rhinelander.

The name apparently comes from a notation on a surveyor's map that indicated the reason they had to backtrack twice before being able to lay railway track through the area. The note simply said, "Three lakes." The lakes in question are Range (Line), Townline (Town Line), and Maple.
