Rhinelander, Wisconsin, is a city in Oneida County located where US Highway 8 meets state highways 17 and 47 about 50 miles north of Wausau. It has about 8300 residents.

It was first called Pelican Rapids after the Pelican River where early settlers claimed to see pelicans. It was renamed for Frederick William Rhinelander.
