Shiocton

Shiocton 703
Shiocton, Wisconsin, is a village in Outagamie County at the intersection of state highways 54, 76, and 187 about 15 miles northwest of Appleton. It has about 900 residents.

It was first named Jordan's Landing or Jordanville after Woodford D. Jordan. It was later renamed Shiocton, which may be an Ojibwe word meaning "people of the wild rice".

Another story says a town to the north had been called Shioc after an Indian chief. When that settlement was abandoned following a washed out dam, Mr. Jordan asked that this settlement be called Shiocton.
