Shell Lake, Wisconsin, is a city in Washburn County along US Highway 63 about 50 miles northeast of St. Croix Falls, which is on the St. Croix River. It has about 1300 residents.
It was first known as Frog Lake and then as Summit. It is now named for the lake which is surrounds, which, in turn, was named for its shape.
