Poynette, Wisconsin, is a village in Columbia County along US Highway 51 about 25 miles north of
Madison. It has about 2600 residents. It was supposed to be called Paquette (or Pauquette) after Pierre Paquette, but the name got garbled, so we now have the meaningless Poynette.
