Milton, Wisconsin, is a city in Rock County at the intersection of state highways 26 and 59 just a couple of miles northeast of
Janesville. It has about 5700 residents.
It was first named Grainfield. It was later renamed Milton after the author of Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained because that's how the settlers felt about first leaving the east and then settling in Wisconsin. Or it may simply be named for Milton, Pennsylvania.
