Menasha L-1 HS |
Menasha, Wisconsin, is a city in Winnebago and Calumet (just a bit) counties at the north end of Lake Winnebago, adjacent to
Appleton to the north. US Highway 10 and state highways 47, 114, and 441 (contiguous with US 10) run through the town. It has over 18,000 residents.
Menasha was given its name by Sarah Doty, wife of Governor James Doty (see Doty Island, partly in Menasha and partly in Neenah). It comes from an Indian word meaning "thorn" or "island". It's unclear whether this is a Winnebago or a Menominee word. There is apparently a Menominee word, Menāēhsaeh, which means "little island".
