Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, is located in Vilas County on (or just off) US Highway 51 about 45 miles northwest of
Rhinelander. There may not be more than a handful of people who live in the settlement proper. It seems to have been named for the river, but other than sounding like an Indian name, I don't know where that comes from either.
