Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, is a city in Walworth County located at the intersection of US Highway 12 and state highways 50 and 120 about 30 miles west of
Kenosha, which is on Lake Michigan. It is also just about 5 miles north of the Wisconsin-Illinois state border. It has about 8300 residents.
The Potawatomi had called the adjacent lake Maunk-Suck (or Muck-Suck) after their chief. The name means "Big Foot", so the French called it Gros Pied. None of those names were all that attractive to the English, so it was eventually called Geneva after Geneva, New York. The "Lake" portion was added later to avoid confusion with the township. Note that the lake itself it technically called Geneva Lake.
