Jefferson, Wisconsin, is a city in Jefferson County at the intersection of US Highway 18 and state highway 26. (State highway 89 passes nearby on the west.) It lies about 30 miles east of
Madison and has about 7800 residents.
The city is apparently named for the county which, in turn, is named for Jefferson County, New York, where some of the early settlers came from.
