Ixonia, Wisconsin, is located in Jefferson County along state highway 16 between Watertown and Oconomowoc. It has about 2350 residents.
The story goes that, when there was trouble deciding on a name for the township (after which the settlement is called), a bunch of letters were written on pieces of paper (and put into a hat?) from which "young Mary Piper" drew until a name could be formed. One wonders how many of each letter were included in the mix.
