Francis Creek

Francis Creek 748
Francis Creek, Wisconsin, is a village in Manitowoc County along I-43 about 10 miles north of Manitowoc, which is on Lake Michigan. The village has about 660 people.

Joseph Poquin named the settlement French Creek, but the post office changed it to Francis Creek because of another French Creek in the state. The post office was closed when rural free delivery from Manitowoc became a thing. It later reopened under the name Axelyn (source unknown) because there was then another Francis Creek in the state. Following a petitioning, it was later changed back to Francis Creek.
