Fountain City, Wisconsin, is located on the Mississippi River in Buffalo County at the intersection of state highways 35 and 95 about 35 miles northwest of La Crosse. It has a population of about 860.
It was originally named Holmes' Landing after Thomas A. Holmes but was later renamed for the many fountains which emerge from the bluffs along the river.
