Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, is a city in Jefferson County located at the intersection of US Highway 12 and state highways 26 and 89 about 20 miles south of
Watertown. It has about 12,500 residents.
The site was originally called Fort Coscong (Koshkonong) when commanded by Brigadier General Henry Atkinson. The city was later renamed Fort Atkinson for the General. It is commonly called Fort, for short, today.
