La Crosse, Wisconsin, is a city on the Mississippi River in La Crosse County. Several significant highways run through the site including I-90, US Highways 14 and 53, and state highways 16, 33, and 35. La Crosse (formerly spelled without the space as LaCrosse) has about 52,000 residents.
Early explorers first called the area Prairie La Crosse for a game played by Native Americans. For a time, when Mormons inhabited the area, it was called Mormon Coulee. The name later became just La Crosse.
