Eleva

Eleva 712
Eleva, Wisconsin, is a village of about 680 people in Trempealeau County where US Highway 10 intersects state highway 93. It lies about 12 miles west of Osseo (which is on I-94) and 15 miles south of Eau Claire (also on I-94).

Eleva was originally called New Chicago and then Dog Town. There are two stories about how it acquired its current name. One states that R. P. Goddard named it after a French village. The other (more interesting) story says that painters labeling a grain elevator only got as far as "ELEVA" before winter set it one year. Before they could finish, visitors began to assume that that was the name of the town, and it stuck.
