Conover, Wisconsin, is located in Vilas County along US Highway 45 about 10 miles north of Eagle River and about 8 miles south of Land O' Lakes, which is at the Upper Michigan border.
The settlement is named for Seth H. Conover. According to Wikipedia, Conover would take a train to the area, even though there was initially no station to stop at. Railway men started calling it Conover's Place.
