Brule 729

Brule, Wisconsin, is located in Douglas County where US Highway 2 and state highway 27 meet. This is roughly midway between Superior and Ashland. It has a population of about 250. The area may be named for Etienne Brule, a French explorer.

The stream that runs through the town is officially called the Bois Brule River, but most people just call it the Brule. It is also the source of the name for the Brule River State Forest which runs the length of the river, north to Lake Superior.
