Barneveld 723 |
Barneveld, Wisconsin, is a village of about 1300 people along US Highway 151 in Iowa County. It lies about 30 miles west of Madison, the capital of the state. It was named after John of Barneveld / Jonna Barneveld / Johan van Oldenbarnevelt who was a Dutch statesman and revolutionary. A surveyor for the local railroad suggested this name.
Sadly, Barneveld is probably best known for being leveled by an F5 tornado in 1984. It has been fully rebuilt and has doubled its population since then.
