The name Antigo comes from the Ojibwe Nequi-Antigo-sebi meaning "spring river" or "evergreen" or possible "balsam evergreen river" or "the place where evergreens can always be found" (depending on the source of your info) - for the Spring Brook stream that runs through the town.
