About 250 people live in the village of Aniwa, Wisconsin. It's a square that's just over 2 square miles along US Highway 45 about 25 miles east of Wausau in Shawano County.
Aniwa is derived from an Ojibwe word meaning "those". Those what? It may also be a corruption of the word meaning "superiority". In either case, it would be most interesting to know who decided on the name and why.
