Mazomanie

Mazomanie 734
Mazomanie, Wisconsin, is a village in Dane County along US Highway 14 just west of its intersection with state highway 19 / 78 about 20 miles northwest of Madison. It has about 1700 residents, most of them fully clothed.

It seems to have first been called Manzemoneka for a number of years. Edward Brodhead may have changed it to Mazomanie. For an excruciatingly-detailed explanation of the source of this Indian name, see the Wikipedia article. It's much too long to repeat or even summarize here.
