Markesan, Wisconsin, is a city in Green Lake County along state highway 44 about halfway between
Portage (to the west) and
Fond du Lac (to the east). Markesan has about 1400 residents.
It was originally known as Granville (reason unknown) and may have been renamed after the Marquesas Islands.
