Amherst Junction

Amherst Junction 707
Amherst Junction, Wisconsin, is a village in Portage County that lies along US Highway 10 just a mile or so northwest of Amherst, putting it about 14 miles east-southeast of Stevens Point. It has about 380 residents.

It was originally called Groversburg (or Groversberg) after the Grover family who had land in the area. It formed the connection; that is, junction between the Wisconsin Central and the Green Bay and Lake Pepin railroad lines and became known as The Junction. Over time, and when the post office was established, the name became Amherst Junction, more than likely due to its proximity to Amherst.
