West Salem, Wisconsin, is a village in La Crosse County located where I-90 and state highways 16 and 108 pass through the area a few miles east of La Crosse, which is on the Mississippi River. It has about 5275 residents.
The name was suggested because it means "peace". When there was confusion with the Salem in Kenosha County, the West portion was added. Why the duplicate Salem was approved in the first place I don't understand.
