Viroqua, Wisconsin, is a city in Vernon County along US Highway 14 about 30 miles southeast of La Crosse, which is on the Mississippi River. It has about 4500 residents.
It was first called Farwell for Governor Farwell. It was changed to Viroqua for reasons unknown. The source of the name is also uncertain though several stories exist - none of which are worth repeating here.
