Sturgeon Bay

Sturgeon Bay 713
Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, is a city in Door County along state highway 42 / 57 about 40 miles northeast of Green Bay. It stretches across the width of the Door Peninsula, sort of, extending from Sturgeon Bay (the water) in the northwest to Lake Michigan in the southeast. In other words, you can't get to the tip of the peninsula by land without going through Sturgeon Bay. It has about 9850 residents.

It was first called Graham (source unknown), then Ottumba (which sounds Indian), then back to Graham (still unknown). Finally it was renamed for the bay. The Menominee had called it the "bay of the sturgeon".
