Port Washington, Wisconsin, is a city in Ozaukee County located on Lake Michigan just east of I-43 where state highways 32 and 33 meet. It has nearly 12,000 residents.
It was first called Wisconsin City, then Washington for President George Washington, and finally Port Washington. The Romance of Wisconsin Place Names also notes, "In 1843...the name was changed to Washington after George Washington, sometimes with the prefix Sauk added." So apparently for a while it was sometimes called Sauk Washington...? That kinda sauks.
