Okauchee (Lake), Wisconsin, is located in Waukesha County along state highway 16 about 15 miles northwest of
Waukesha. It has about 5100 residents. The Indian word may mean "something small", "pipe stem", "very long", or "the chief is cone". In other words, no one really has a clue. Apparently (based on the precancel) it was first called Okauchee, and the "Lake" portion was added some time later.
