Neenah, Wisconsin, is a city in Winnebago County on the northwestern shore of Lake Winnebago. The Fox River flows from Lake Winnebago around Doty Island and into Little Lake Butte des Morts (part of the Fox River) at this location. I-41 and state highway 114 meet in Neenah. It is adjacent to (to the north) and sometimes called the twin city of
Menasha. It has about 27,300 residents.
It was first called Winnebago Rapids. Neenah is the Winnebago word for "water". Governor James Doty (of Doty Island fame) renamed the city from this word.
