Montfort

Montfort 721
Montfort, Wisconsin, is a village mostly in Grant and a little in Iowa County at the intersection of US Highway 18 and state highway 80 about 40 miles west of Prairie du Chien, which is on the Mississippi River. It has about 700 people.

It was first called Wingville after a resident caught a pheasant with his hands. For a time it was called Podunk. (Awesome.) It became Montfort for a fort built on a nearby hill during the Blackhawk War.
