Montello

Montello 721
Montello, Wisconsin, is a city in Marquette County at the intersection of state highways 22 and 23 about 20 miles north-northeast of Portage. It has about 1500 residents.

It was first called Serairo for a place in Mexico. Then it was called Hill River for the geography. It became Montello either after a place in a novel or for the French Mont l' eau, hill by the water. The hills of Montello lie along the Fox River.
