Merrill, Wisconsin, is a city in Lincoln County just west of US Highway 51 at the intersection of state highways 64 and 107 about 15 miles north of
Wausau. It has about 9300 residents.
The settlement was first called Jenny Bull Falls. Jenny was an Indian girl. Settlers said the falls on the Wisconsin River, that flows through the town, sounded like a roaring bull. The town's name was shortened to Jenny Falls and then to Jenny but was changed to Merrill in honor of Sherburn S. Merrill.
