Mattoon, Wisconsin, is a village in Shawano County about 30 miles east of Wausau. US Highway 45 runs about 6 miles to the west. Mattoon has about 400 residents.
I can find no information about the name. Perhaps it was named for Matton, Illinois, which was named for William B. Mattoon.
