Marathon (City), Wisconsin, is a village in Marathon County is located at the intersection of state highways 29 and 107 about 10 miles west of Wausau. It has about 1500 residents.
The village apparently was formerly called just Marathon but is now known as Marathon City. Both the city and the county were named for the Greek Battle of Marathon. Why? Why not?
