Jump River

Jump River 724
Jump River, Wisconsin, is located in Taylor County along state highway 73 about 20 miles southeast of Ladysmith. It has just 52 people left, as of 2010.

The original settlement was called Broderville for Barney Broeder. This wasn't located at quite the same spot as the current Jump River, but it's close enough. The settlement, which is 3 "blocks" long, lies along the bank of the Jump River which supposedly was so named because Indians used the Big and Little Jump Rivers for tests of athletic prowess near their sources. It's a decent story that's too good to check.
