Gays Mills is a village in Crawford County at the intersection of state highways 131 and 171 about 30 miles northeast of
Prairie du Chien, which is on the Mississippi River. It has about 500 residents.
James Gay built a saw mill and a flour mill, so people came to use Gay's mills, which eventually turned into Gays Mills.
