Exeland

Exeland 729
Exeland, Wisconsin, is located in Sawyer County along state highway 48 just west of where it meets highway 40 about 75 miles north of Eau Claire.

In the early 1900s, there was a race to see who would reach this area first. The Arpin Lumber Company built a line there first that eventually crossed one built by the Wisconsin Central that was going from Chicago to Duluth. The result was an X in the tracks at this location and thus the village name.
