Crandon, Wisconsin, is a city of about 1700 in (what is now) Forest County at the intersection of US Highway 8 and state highways 32 and 55 about 100 miles northwest of Green Bay.
The settlement was first called Ayr after a city in Scotland. Forest County was crafted from portions of Oconto and Langlade counties. Major Frank P. Crandon was instrumental in accomplishing this change, so the county seat - Crandon - was renamed in his honor.
