Cato

Cato 701

Cato, Wisconsin, is located along US Highway 10 in Manitowoc County almost 15 miles west of Manitowoc. Little is left of the town today because much of it had to be leveled when Highway 10 was constructed.

Cato was originally called Harris and Harrisville after John E. Harris. Later it was called Nettle Hill, presumably due to local flora. Alder Hickok, the first town chairman, renamed it for Cato, New York, from which he had come.
