Bloomer 721 |
Bloomer, Wisconsin, is located in Chippewa County at the intersection of US Highway 53 and state highway 40 (and nearby state highway 64). It's about 15 miles north of Chippewa Falls, which is adjacent to Lake Halle, which is adjacent to Eau Claire, which is on I-94.
The area was first known as Bloomer's (or Bloomer) Prairie after a Mr. Bloomer from Galena, Illinois. Later it was called Vanville after Sylvester Van Loon (the first postmaster) for a time, but reverted simply to Bloomer in the end.
Bloomer is (unofficially) the jump rope capital of the world. It has about 3500 residents.
