Ableman

Ableman 712

According to the Sauk County (where Ableman was located) Historical Society, "Ableman became Rock Springs in 1875, alluding to the many natural artesian springs which abound in and around the village. The name reverted to Ableman in 1879, and in 1947, it again and permanently became Rock Springs."

Rock Springs today is still located in south central Wisconsin where state highways 154 and 136 meet. Roughly 350 people live in the city.

Ableman, Wisconsin, was named for Stephen Van Rensselaer Ableman who settled there in 1851. He is still remembered in the area via Ableman's Gorge State Natural Area and Ableman Road both of which are just north of Rock Springs.
