East Ellsworth

East Ellsworth 734
East Ellsworth, Wisconsin, was once separate from Ellsworth but is now part of that village in Pierce County. It is located at the junction of US Highways 10 and 63 and state highway 65 about 15 miles east of Prescott, which is at the confluence of the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers.

Details seem a bit muddled, but the settlement of East Ellsworth and Ellsworth has to do with a dispute over where the Pierce County seat was to be located. Lines were drawn diagonally across the county apparently to find the center point. Ellsworth / East Ellsworth was the result.

The Ellsworths are named for Colonel Elmer Ephraim Ellsworth.
