Wittenberg, Wisconsin, is a village in Shawano County at the intersection of US Highway 45 and state highway 29 about 25 miles east of Wausau. It has about 1000 residents.
It was first called Carbenero (Spanish for "charcoal burner") for the charcoal kilns built there. It was renamed Wittenberg for reasons that are not clear.
