Winneconne, Wisconsin, is a village in Winnebago County along state highway 116 essentially spanning the Wolf River between Lake Butte des Morts and Lake Winneconne, which is really part of Lake Poygan. It lies about 10 miles northwest of Oshkosh, which is on the western shore of Lake Winnebago. Its most likely Indian meaning is "place of skulls". Winneconne is pronounced WIN-uh-KAH-nee.
