Rio

Rio 708
Rio 834

Rio, Wisconsin, is a village in Columbia County along state highway 16 about 15 miles southeast of Portage. Note that it is pronounced RYE-oh, not REE-oh (as in Rio de Janeiro). It has just over 1000 residents.

Delos Bundy, the first postmaster, requested that the settlement be called Ohio, but when authorized, the name appeared as Rio - for reasons unknown.
